The Storyboards for the Xfest trailer. We
didn't have much time to create and execute this, but our engine for 360 was
moving along suprisingly quickly, and
we were sure we could get something together fast if we had a good idea of
what we wanted to make. This was my second proposal for the animation, and
I encouraged
the animators to add to it. After this stage it was a lot of back and forth
with adjusting camera, lighting and throwing in small ideas to pump it up.
I really love the addition
of the swan dive into the roll. Because of this animation, we ended up adding
the swandive/roll into the core set of moves. It was also a nice way to prototype
the
superactions in the game. I could imagine this with the 'X' and 'O' appearing
to help Lara dodge the spikes.
All of us on the team were laughing when people
were adamantly stating 'this was prerendered!' Speaking as a developer, I
was truly blown away by what the Xbox 360 can do,
so I don't blame them for believing
that.
Yes it was all done completely ingame with the engine using the scripting
system and cinematics tool.
